SUMMARY OF PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE AND WORK HISTORY :-
As a consultant to Mobil Oil Corporation since 1982 I have been involved in the development and teaching of advanced and basic well control courses to their drilling personnel world-wide. I have evaluated and analysed underground blowout data from problem wells and have developed simulator exercises for use on the advanced well control training course.
My background as an operational Petroleum Engineer with British Petroleum in both the North Sea and Alaska (1974-79), followed by my years with Reading and Bates Drilling Company as Training Manager from 1979-82, (we were the first contractor to receive US Government Well Control Certification,) and my high-school teaching experience (1971-74). I have a unique operator and contractor insight into teaching the fundamentals of this subject. From my time spent in drilling operations, I have a sound understanding of the engineering principles, a good knowledge of well control equipment and have mastered the skills of teaching.
I formed International Drilling Schools in 1982 (received IADC accreditation, MMS and IWCF certification) and have specialized in well control training world-wide. I have made several trips to Indonesia for Mobil Oil, Arco, Marathon, and Pertamina and I am very familiar with the difficult drilling and unique well control problems faced by drilling management in that country.
I have been consulted on several occasions on onshore and offshore well control problems in North America and internationally. I also acted as an advisor and trainer to the personnel drilling the relief well on an underground blowout experienced by Mobil offshore Eastern Canada in 1985.
Since 1995 I have been involved with the development of Deepwater well control strategies and training seminars for Arco in Indonesian, West African and Black Sea operations.
